If you have abandoned your house or own a distressed property in Lagos, you may be facing sanctions in accordance with the relevant laws of the state in the coming months.
The Lagos State Government will enforce the State Urban Development, Urban Regeneration and Building Control Law 2010, so every owner of an abandoned or distressed property must take physical or possession of such property and ensure that it is completed, restored and fit for habitation within 90days from March 3rd 2016.
This was contained in a Public Notice issued by Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development in which it listed over 65 of such properties across the state and directed their owner to act before 90 days, The notice was signed by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry.

The government said that it is necessary to checkmate the malaise of the building collapse as well as to ensure safety and security of residents by riding the state of building that house hoodlums, miscreants and reptiles.
The State Phyical Planning Permit Authority defines an abandoned property as any existing property previously occupied but vacated or left uninhabited for a period of 5 years, or an uncompleted building which work has ceased for up to 5 years.
